MIDVAAL -On August 23, DAWN’s mass blue wave initiative against substance abuse took to the streets in Midvaal. The peaceful march started at Lakeside Hall, with participants walking to the Savannah City Gospel Fire Church, displaying placards with strong messages against substance abuse.
DAWN Midvaal Interim Chairperson Refiloe Teixeira says, “As we mark the end of Women’s Month, we stand fearless and united in our fight against drug abuse and those who profit from destroying our communities. We understand that the root of GBV is fuelled by substance abuse, and we can no longer remain silent.” DAWN wants drug dealers to know that their actions are destroying families, promoting violence, and robbing young people of their future.
“We are committed to exposing, confronting, and stopping the spread of drugs in our communities. This is not just a call, it is a warning. We will not tolerate those who continue to sell drugs and contribute to the cycle of abuse and violence. Together, we will protect our women, our youth, and our future.”
Teixeira extended her heartfelt gratitude to Midvaal Local Municipality Mayor Peter Teixeira, NPO Walk with Winners, Member of Parliament Angela Khanyile, DA Vaal regional chair Prudence Hlanyane, DAWN leader Sally Nene, Full Gospel Church, and partners for their unwavering support and guidance. “Your commitment and collaboration have been the driving force behind building a stronger, safer, and more hopeful future.”
