Thieves crash after high-speed crash
A local security company’s rapid response helped stop a beam theft in its tracks, recovering all stolen materials after a dramatic car chase ended in a crash—no injuries reported.
MEYERTON – A daring early-morning car chase ended in Meyerton on 2 August 2025 after a group of suspected beam thieves were spotted fleeing Arcon Park.
According to local private security company Sekuriteit Sonder Grense, the alert came after two homes in Arcon Park were found missing structural beams.
A quick-thinking reaction officer notified nearby units to move in and block possible escape routes.
The suspects were traced to a silver Toyota Corolla, previously linked to beam thefts in the area. A pursuit began as the vehicle attempted to flee, with officers maintaining visual contact along the route to Meyerton.
The chase ended when the Corolla lost control on a sharp highway turn, crashing into a barrier. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, but crucially, all stolen beams and the tools used to remove them remained inside.
Meyerton SAPS and Sekuriteit Sonder Grense officers secured the vehicle and recovered the stolen property, preventing the thieves from successfully completing their getaway. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Authorities praised the quick response of the officers involved, noting that the combination of alert residents, rapid communication, and careful pursuit prevented further losses.
The recovered beams have been returned to the affected properties, and police continue to search for the suspects who fled on foot.
Sekuriteit Sonder Grense encouraged residents to report suspicious activity promptly, highlighting the role of community vigilance in stopping criminal activity.
