Burnham uses God-given talent to uplift vulnerable communities

Her dream is to see herself competing internationally as well as coaching or mentoring the up-and-coming models in the industry.

SEDIBENG.- Rubina Burnham (19) is using her God-given talent to make a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable people in her community.

Her inspiring journey began on May 17, when she became a finalist in the Miss Gauteng Exclusive pageant. Following this achievement, she launched the #StarStrong Campaign, which focuses on child welfare, dignity, and building confidence.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Burnham explained that her work is about more than beauty, it’s about using her talent on stage to uplift and empower vulnerable individuals. She said her upbringing inspired her to make a difference in the lives of those who need support the most.

Described as a “brain and beauty” model, Burnham embodies the belief that intellect and beauty go hand in hand, and that true beauty without purpose is wasted potential. Through her campaign, she has not only provided for the basic needs of vulnerable children but has also partnered with Families South Africa (FAMSA) to address mental health challenges, offering professional support to children facing emotional difficulties.

When asked where she wants to see herself, she was quick to point out that her dream is to see herself competing internationally as well as coaching or mentoring the up-and-coming models in the industry. Her passion for modelling began at a young age while watching television with her mother, admiring professional models.

She officially entered the pageant world in 2003.

“It’s funny how it all started. After my cousin won her beauty pageant, I became curious about pageantry beyond just watching it on TV. Modelling, for me, is not just about beauty, it’s about using this platform to touch the lives of ordinary people in our communities,” she said.

Burnham hopes to be remembered for using her God-given talent to create positive change. “I want to leave a mark by changing the lives of people in my community in a meaningful way,” she told Sedibeng Ster.
