Meyerton mall gets temporary mobile tower

Riverstone Mall shoppers can now enjoy stronger 5G signal thanks to Vodacom’s temporary tower upgrade.

MEYERTON — Shoppers and tenants at Riverstone Mall can now enjoy improved mobile phone coverage thanks to a temporary mobile network tower provided by Vodacom.

According to Vincent Myburgh, Operations Manager of Riverstone Mall, the tower, which was activated in early September, is the first phase of a broader plan to upgrade mobile infrastructure at the mall. The temporary tower functions as a relay: it receives signal from a nearby Vodacom base station and rebroadcasts it across the mall, improving coverage for both businesses inside the mall and shoppers on site. The system supports 5G technology. “This is a temporary measure,” Myburgh said.

“The permanent solution will involve mounting a full-scale mobile antenna on the mall building itself, which will enhance network coverage not only for Riverstone Mall but for the wider Meyerton area.” Plans for the permanent installation have already been approved by Vodacom, Myburgh said, with the remaining steps now dependent on funding and scheduling. No timeline has yet been set for phase two.
