New Dojo established in Sharpeville

"If anyone is interested in providing us with transport, equipment or a proper venue, we would be grateful."

SHARPEVILLE.- A new Karate Dojo has opened in Sharpeville, called Sharpeville Vaal Dojo-Kyokshin Budo Kan.

This new Dojo is for full-contact karate.

On September 6, the members of the Dojo took part in a tournament at the Vosloorus Civic Centre. This was their second appearance, and the young fighters did not disappoint as they brought home four trophies. Their first tournament was at Orlando East Community Hall, where they garnered two trophies, finishing in positions 1 and 3 in the under 60kg category.

Tshepang Bolofo, the team manager, told Sedibeng Ster that they need the support of the Sharpeville community, as they currently don’t have a proper venue and use the Mohloli MSI SOS Maritime in Vuka as their training venue.

“We are reaching out to the Sharpeville community to know about us. We welcome members from the age of 6. We have no gender restrictions; all genders are welcome to come train at no monthly fee.”

The Dojo members are currently preparing for a grading event that will take place in Thokoza on September 25. The last tournament of the year will be held in Mamelodi on November 29.

“These trips are funded from our pockets. If anyone is interested in providing us with transport, equipment or a proper venue, we would be grateful,” said Stephen Moeketsi (Sensei), the instructor.
