Police launch manhunt after fatal shooting in Henley
Subsequent investigations led officers to the crime scene, a well-known pedestrian crossing point along the railway line connecting Highbury and Henley on Klip
MIDVAAL – Police are searching for three suspects following the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man, believed to have occurred during an armed robbery near the Henley on Klip railway line on September 21.
According to police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, officers were alerted to a murder case at approximately 09:30 from Kopanong Hospital.
“Upon arrival at the hospital, officers were directed to the body of an African male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Hospital staff confirmed that the victim was declared dead on arrival,” said Zazini.
Subsequent investigations led officers to the crime scene, a well-known pedestrian crossing point along the railway line connecting Highbury and Henley on Klip.
At the scene, police recovered several cartridges and found visible traces of blood.
Two eyewitnesses provided statements to police, reporting that they had been confronted by three armed men who attempted to rob pedestrians crossing the railway. The witnesses, who said they were not carrying any valuables, were unharmed.
The witnesses added that the deceased victim allegedly resisted the robbery and was shot multiple times by the suspects. Bystanders rushed him to Kopanong Hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to the extent of his injuries.
Meyerton Police are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to come forward. A case of murder has been opened and remains under active investigation.
