SILO Institute of Love celebrates culture and tradition

“Today was not only a celebration of tradition but also a call to action, to carry forward Ubuntu as a guiding principle in homes, schools, and workplaces."

SEBOKNENG.- SILO Institute of Love joined millions of South Africans in celebrating Heritage Day recently.

With September known as Heritage Month, events all over the country were held with organisations, institutions, and individuals celebrating their culture and traditions.

SILO became a vibrant gathering place for the Vaal community, where culture, unity, and humanity were celebrated under the Theme “The Lesson of Ubuntu”. This event brought together families, elders, and young people under the same roof to reflect on what it means to live by the values, principles, and attitude of Ubuntu in today’s world.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, SILO Founder Maria Molefi said that, through music, dance, storytelling, and prayer, participants were reminded that Ubuntu (“I am because we are”) is more than a philosophy.

She emphasised that it is a way of life rooted in compassion, respect, and shared responsibility. Molefi said speakers encouraged the community to embody kindness, fairness, and humility in their daily interactions, while cultural performance highlighted South Africa’s rich heritage as a living expression of togetherness.

“Today was not only a celebration of tradition but also a call to action, to carry forward Ubuntu as a guiding principle in homes, schools, and workplaces. For many who attended this event reaffirmed that the heart of heritage lies not just in what we inherit, but in how we treat one another with dignity and love,” she concluded.
