VBC invites ELM to learn from Midvaal
The purpose of this visit is not only to observe best practices but also to heed the very advice given by President Cyril Ramaphosa, supported by ANC leaders Fikile Mbalula and Gwede Mantashe, during their address at the FNB Dome recently.
SEDIBENG.- The Vaal Business Cooperation (VBC) recently sent the leadership of Emfuleni Local Municipality a bold invitation.
The non-profit organisation (NPO), set up for the upliftment of the Vaal by businesses in Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark, proposed to facilitate and participate in a joint delegation visit, alongside representatives of the ELM and the Mayoral Committee, to the neighbouring Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM).
VBC said that the visit would aim to observe MLM’s “best practices”.
The organisation noted that MLM, under the stewardship of Midvaal Mayor Peter Teixeira, has become nationally recognised for its clean governance, zero tolerance for corruption, and efficient service delivery.
“This stands in marked contrast to the well-documented challenges faced by Emfuleni Local Municipality, which has regrettably become synonymous with dysfunction, financial instability, and compromised service provision,” the organisation said, adding that the purpose of this visit is not only to observe best practices but also to heed the very advice given by President Cyril Ramaphosa, supported by ANC leaders Fikile Mbalula and Gwede Mantashe, during their address at the FNB Dome recently.
The organisations said that the call was clear: the ANC must urgently learn from those who are succeeding in governance, even if that success belongs to the opposition.
In this spirit, VBC said that it views the visit to Midvaal as a constructive opportunity for ELM leadership to see firsthand what it said was competent, corruption-free administration looks like, and how it directly benefits residents and businesses alike.
“As a civil business body deeply invested in the Vaal’s prosperity, VBC remains committed to encouraging accountability, transparency, and the pursuit of excellence. If our own local officials can embrace these lessons, there remains hope for restoring dignity, stability, and growth to the Vaal Region. We propose and welcome an engagement and delegation as a historic step toward progress—one that is long overdue. After all, if the President himself and senior leadership of the ANC says it is time to learn from the DA, who are we to disagree.”
ELM spokesperson Makhosonke Sangweni said that the ELM is not aware of the challenge/invitation.
