VANDERBIJLPARK.- Jomo Cosmos registered their first ABC Motsepe League win when they beat Young Pirates 4-2 at Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday.

The game was originally scheduled to take place at Sicelo Stadium in Meyerton, but due to the Gauteng Development League, it was moved to this venue. Jomo Cosmos now has five points from four matches, with a record of one win, two draws, and one loss. However, the last-minute change of venue caught many local soccer fans by surprise, as they had been under the impression that the match would still be played at Sicelo Stadium.

To date, Jomo Cosmos and Young Pirates use Sicelo Stadium for their Gauteng ABC Motsepe League home games. This particular fixture was meant to be a Jomo Cosmos home match, but the venue was changed due to Gauteng Development League games at Sicelo Stadium.

Sedibeng Ster Sport learned about the venue change at the last minute via a post on Young Pirates FC’s Facebook page. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, local football follower Dipoko Linkoe said Sicelo Stadium is one of the best facilities in the area, hence both Cosmos and Pirates prefer it.

“Look, I’ve been there and I must say this venue is top class, especially the pitch. I don’t blame the two teams for choosing to play there because, compared to other venues, it is far better.”

Speaking about the game, Linkoe said Young Pirates started their ABC Motsepe League campaign well and believes they will challenge for the league title at the end of the season. He said the defeat against Jomo Cosmos was simply due to bad luck and expects the team to regroup in their next game.
