Midvaal to host SA long-distance triathlon championships

Midvaal is gearing up to welcome triathletes from across South Africa as it prepares to host the national long-distance championships for the first time.

MIDVAAL – Athletes from across the country are gearing up for an endurance showdown in Midvaal, where swimming, cycling and running will collide in one of South Africa’s toughest triathlon events.

Top endurance athletes from across South Africa will converge on Midvaal early next year when the region hosts the prestigious SA Long-Distance Triathlon Championships.

The championships will form part of the Midvaal Triathlon, set for 22 February 2026, and will see competitors take on grueling swim, cycle and run segments around some of the municipality’s most scenic routes.

Participants can choose between two distances: a 2 km swim, 80 km cycle and 20 km run, or a shorter 1 km swim, 40 km cycle and 10 km run. A corporate relay event will also be held, offering businesses and recreational athletes a chance to be part of the action.

The event is sanctioned by Triathlon South Africa and is expected to attract both elite triathletes and enthusiastic amateurs.
