VANDERBIJLPARK.- SABC Sports took a closer look at the journey of Sedibeng Ster senior journalist, Zacharia Nale last week.

The SABC Sports crew visited Nale at Cecil Old Ridge Park, where he trains young soccer players from the Vaal.

Zakes, as Nale is affectionately known in the media industry, is not only a journalist but also a community builder. He is involved in the development of sports and charity projects, helping those who are vulnerable within the community.

During the interview, SABC Sports travelled down memory lane with Nale, reflecting on how he manages his demanding schedule, especially as a sports journalist, while driving community upliftment projects.

Nale started his development academy to nurture young talent and make their dreams of playing football at the highest level a reality.

Kaizer Chiefs youngster, Naledi Hlongwane, is one of the success stories from Nale’s academy. Another notable name from his development academy is former Kaizer Chiefs forward, Lebohang Lesako, who is now on the books of Orbit College.

Nale’s charity projects started during Covid-19.

During the nationwide lockdown, he organised food parcels and wheelchairs for the elderly residents in the community.

He told SABC Sports that his passion for developing and giving back is rooted in his upbringing.

“I come from a humble family, my parents were Christians. We used to share our home with strangers. This influenced me to follow in their footsteps. I’m passionate about changing lives,” said Nale.
