Scores gather outside court as taxi driver of deadly Vaal crash appears today

The courtroom is overflowing with emotional families and supporters as they wait for the 22-year-old driver to face a magistrate.

VANDERBIJLPARK.-  The 22-year-old minibus driver who was arrested after the tragic crash that claimed the lives of 14 pupils on Monday is set to briefly appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court today.

The driver faces charges of culpable homicide after his taxi collided with a truck on the way to drop off pupils in Vanderbijlpark. The courtroom is overflowing with emotional families and supporters as they wait for the 22-year-old driver to face a magistrate for the first time.

Scores of organisations have also gathered outside the court, and several families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy packed the Regional B court.

While the proceedings haven’t commenced, the packed gallery eagerly awaits.
