Meyerton SAPS urges spiritual resilience as the year begins

The event also put a spotlight on social issues.

The Meyerton Police have launched their 2025 calendar with a focus on faith and community spirit. Officers and residents gathered at the God on Earth Church in Meyerton Farms for a special Spiritual Crime Prevention event.

Police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini explained that the objective of the event was to start the year with a strong spiritual foundation, encouraging law enforcement officials and community members to approach the year with positivity, renewed spiritual awareness, and a sense of purpose.

She noted that faith-based groups are essential in the fight against crime, as they support the youth, the homeless, widows, and orphans.

During the service, Charmaine Leotlela shared a message from Matthew 25:1–10. She spoke about the importance of being spiritually prepared for life’s challenges, putting God first, and keeping communication open.

The event also tackled serious social issues. Warrant Officer Seipati Mohlapholi, the local Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Co-ordinator, spoke out about domestic abuse. She urged victims to stick to protection orders and avoid the pressure from partners to cancel them, and also to prioritise safety over emotional manipulation.

Midvaal Fire Department representative Mathapelo Rantsie showed attendees how to use fire extinguishers correctly and educated them on fire hazards and the importance of fire safety compliance.

Midvaal Traffic Superintendent Nomsa Godole addressed road safety, covering matters such as valid permits, driver’s licences, professional driving permits, vehicle overloading, and roadworthiness. She stressed that adherence to road regulations and traffic signs is essential in preventing accidents and saving lives.

The event concluded with a candlelight ceremony led by the church’s Sunday School in remembrance of victims of a recent scholar transport accident in Vanderbijlpark.
