Give us gloves, not cash, pleads boxing legend
“We all know that this region has a rich history. Boxers from Vaal used to dominate South African boxing, producing champions who made a name for themselves abroad. I’m one of them,”
SEBOKENG.- Local boxing legend David ‘Mixo’ Potsane has a simple message for sports authorities: he doesn’t want money, he wants equipment.
The former ring icon is calling on sports authorities to provide the tools needed to train the next generation of fighters in the community.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Potsane explained that while many former pros are eager to help young talent, they are being held back by a lack of basic gym gear. Potsane said that his attempts to get help from the relevant authorities have so far been unsuccessful. He claims he has been sent from pillar to post whenever he asks for support.

The frustration is growing.
Potsane has secured a place where he can train young boxers in an old building in Zone 12, but the problem is the equipment.
“We all know that this region has a rich history. Boxers from Vaal used to dominate South African boxing, producing champions who made a name for themselves abroad. I’m one of them,” he said.
Despite the area’s proud sporting heritage, Potsane feels the community is being ignored. Potsane and fellow boxer Aaron Kabi are doing their best to keep these young boxers active, but they are reaching the breaking point.
“We are not asking for money, we just want gym equipment to train these youngsters. We’ve been told so many stories, but we won’t give up for the sake of these kids.”
