New road brings boost to Midvaal
The project was delivered on time and within budget, featuring improved safety measures and creating opportunities for nine SMMEs and seven local labourers.
Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) has officially completed the Papegaai Road upgrade, transforming the former gravel track into a tarred road. The project, which cost R12m, was finished both on time and within budget after work began in September.
“The scope of the project included mass earthworks, including the excavation, hauling, and compaction of soil and rock to establish stable foundations. We also constructed pavement layers and applied a 30mm-thick asphalt surfacing,” the municipality confirmed.
To improve safety for drivers and walkers alike, the team also installed concrete kerbs, speed humps, and pedestrian crossings. New road signs and clear markings have been added to complete the project.
“In line with our commitment to create opportunities and local economic development, the project created opportunities for nine SMMEs (small, medium, and micro Enterprises) and seven local labourers, who directly benefited from this project.”
MLM reiterates its commitment to investing in the development of its infrastructure, stating that it will continue to leverage resources to expand and improve the municipal road network for the benefit of all communities.
