My blood is black and gold!

As much as Orlando Pirates come into this much-anticipated Soweto Derby as red-hot favourites, they should brace themselves for the mother of all battles.

SEDIBENG.- I will bet my last cent on Kaizer Chiefs to walk away with derby bragging rights.

As much as Orlando Pirates come into this much-anticipated Soweto Derby as red-hot favourites, they should brace themselves for the mother of all battles.

These two Soweto-born giants meet in the Betway Premiership League fixture at the Calabash FNB Stadium on February 28.

To make it interesting, this derby is already sold out.

Despite blowing hot and cold, Amakhosi are expected to rise to the occasion as they always do.

Form counts for nothing when it comes to the derby, and without a doubt, Chiefs will walk away with the bragging rights. History has no blank pages. The last time the two South African football giants met was in the Nedbank Cup final. ‘Phefene Glamour Boys’, as Chiefs is affectionately known, ‘robbed’ the Pirates of the champion crown.

This was despite the odds stacked against them. They rose to the occasion as they always do, especially against the Pirates, who happen to be their bitter rivals. This derby has already divided the Vaal Triangle football fraternity in two, with Sedibeng Ster’s senior sports journalist taking a close look at this Soweto Derby.

The rivalry between these two dates back to when Kaizer Chiefs was formed.

The club chairman, Kaizer “Chancha Guluva” Motaung, on his return from overseas, found some of his teammates at Pirates suspended.

This led to the formation of Chiefs, which became a household name.

The club became the most decorated football club in a short space of time, winning everything that came their way in the 1970s. The club dominated South African football and became one of the most feared sides with great players.

This journalist put his last cent on Amakhosi to walk with bragging rights come February 28. MATTER OF FACT, stars are born at the Soweto Derby, and one of our own from the Vaal, Naledi Hlongwane, might be that star born on that day.
