VEREENIGING.- Invite or no invite, Zakes’ Sports Corner showed up at the recent historical Sedibeng Sports Indaba.
This event, a first of its kind to take place in this region, was held at Vaal Tecknorama Museum over the weekend THANKS to Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) and Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.
This was long overdue, with Zakes’ Sports Corner always feeling very strongly that there was a serious need to have the Sports Indaba to address some of the issues regarding the challenges in this region.
It was rather encouraging to see different sporting codes under the same roof for two days to discuss the future of sport in Sedibeng.
This columnist was inspired by the speakers who shared their vision for sports in Sedibeng.
This must be documented as the ‘Sedibeng Sports Blueprint‘!
Zakes’ Sports Corner believes this is something we need every year, with all sports codes coming together to discuss the future of sport, especially together with the athletes.
Sports Corner hopes that what was discussed at this Sports Indaba will be implemented.
This shouldn’t be a once-off thing!
This columnist challenges all the stakeholders in this region to buy into this vision of “transforming” all the sporting codes in this region.
As a region, we still have a long way to go, but this Sedibeng Sports Indaba gave everyone a direction on what to do after this gathering.
This spirit of unity was the highlight of Zakes’ Sports Corner this week, as people of all races gathered under one roof, driven by a common goal. It was truly overwhelming to witness both past and current sports administrators sharing the stage.
For Zakes’ Sports Corner, there is no greater reward than the sight of joyful faces returning to the stands after a long break. This wasn’t just another weekend of play; it was two days of action that earned a permanent spot on the region’s sporting calendar.
