Meyerton Police launch two murder investigations
Police in Meyerton have opened murder investigations following two separate violent incidents. A man was arrested after a fatal stabbing at the Springfield dumping site, while another person was killed and four injured in a shooting at Khanyile Tavern.
MEYERTON – The police have launched a murder case docket after a man succumbed to multiple stab wounds to his head.
According to police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, on March 8, police were summoned to the scene at the Springfield dumping site, where the lifeless body of the victim was discovered.
On arrival, neighbours alerted police that the suspect had come home and found the deceased inside his shack, hiding behind the door. He grabbed him and told him not to make a noise.
“A fight between the two ensued, and the suspect managed to overpower the deceased. He took a knife and stabbed the deceased multiple times in the face and the back of the head.”
“The suspect then dragged the deceased outside, just a few meters away from the shack, and left him there, subsequently hiding in the bushes.”
Zazini says neighbours found the suspect where he was hiding and asked him why he was hiding. He revealed that he had fought with someone who had stolen his food. He was later informed that the person he had fought with had died.The suspect was arrested and charged with murder. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Meanwhile, police are investigating a tavern shooting after three unknown males wearing blankets arrived at Khanyile tavern, where people were sitting and drinking, and opened fire on patrons. The incident happened on March 7.
Zazini says one person was fatally wounded while four were taken to the hospital after sustaining injuries.
“The motive for the shooting is unknown at present, and no suspects have been arrested.”
Zazini confirms that a murder case docket is open for investigation.
