VANDERBIJLPARK.- It was an action-packed Saturday at Isak Steyl Stadium as football fans were treated to an exciting double-header featuring both professional prospects and local rivals.
The day kicked off with a DStv Diski Challenge clash between Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City.

This high-level curtain-raiser set the tone for the main event, a local derby in the SAFA Sedibeng Hollywood Men’s Regional League between VUT FC and NWU Vaal FC.

The match between the two local institutions lived up to the hype, keeping supporters on the edge of their seats from the first whistle. Inspired by the professional game held earlier, both teams displayed a high standard of fast, flowing football.

VUT FC, playing at home, created numerous chances early on.

However, their strikers appeared to be “off duty,” wasting several opportunities that could have seen them lead by two or three goals before the break. While VUT struggled with composure, NWU Vaal FC looked dangerous every time they had possession, using their speedy players to threaten the home side’s defence.

The visitors were the first to break the deadlock, but VUT FC managed to respond before the half-time break. Despite the home side’s frustration, their strikers eventually found their ‘lost’ scoring boots in the second half.

NWU Vaal FC refused to go down without a fight, showing great skill by building play from the back, even under high pressure from VUT. While the final score was close, VUT FC will feel they could have won by more if they had been more clinical in front of goal. Nevertheless, they secured the win and the local bragging rights.
Full-time score: 3-2.
