Sedibeng SAPS’ Junior Commissioner competition empowers learners
Learners engaged on different topics that affect their general wellbeing.
SEBOKENG. – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Sedibeng District hosted the Junior Commissioner Competition, a dynamic platform where high school learners engage on critical social challenges affecting their communities.
The event took place at the Arcellor-Mittal Science Centre in Sebokeng last week.
Learners discussed drug and substance abuse
This is where learners from various schools across the district confidently took to the stage, presenting on pressing issues such as drug and substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, crime, bullying, and peer pressure.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said that through these presentations, learners are not only demonstrating exceptional public speaking and leadership skills but also reflecting a deep understanding of the realities faced by today’s youth.
The competition strengthened collaborations between schools
“The competition serves as an important platform for young people to voice their concerns, share lived experiences, and propose practical solutions. It further strengthens collaboration between schools, law enforcement, and community stakeholders in the collective effort to build safer and more supportive environments for learners.”

Maxambela added that SAPS Sedibeng District remains committed to youth empowerment and crime prevention initiatives, recognising that investing in young people is essential for creating sustainable and safer communities.
