Mako elected ELM Mayor

Radebe was fired by the ruling party last week following a disastrous term of office.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- As expected, Hassan Mako, has been elected as the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Mayor.

This follows an ELM Council Sitting that took place this morning in Vanderbijlpark.

Mako is a former MMC of Finance and has been acting mayor of the ELM since the departure of former mayor, Sipho Radebe.

Radebe was fired by the ruling party last week following a disastrous term of office.

Coming to today’s Council Sitting, which was expected to nominate and elect the mayor, the African National Congress’ (ANC) Gauteng Provincial Task Team (PTT) had announced, last night, that Mako was its Executive Mayoral candidate.

Mako replaces Radebe who was fired by the ruling party last week following a disastrous term of office. Radebe now becomes a member of the ELM Council as an ordinary elected Ward 21 (Tshepong) councillor.

The ELM said that it remains committed to transparent governance, accountability, and improving the quality of life for all residents.

” We congratulate Cllr. Hassan Mako and wish him well as he leads the municipality forward.”

Meanwhile, the PTT said that Mako brings with him extensive experience as both a community development worker and Ward Councillor for Ward 37 who was later appointed as the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance in Emfuleni.

Mako was recently elected as ANC Sedibeng Treasure

“Comrade Mako rose through the ranks of the ANC Youth League, serving as Branch Secretary, Branch Chairperson, and ANCYL Zonal Chairperson. Furthermore, he served as an ANC Branch Executive Committee member and an ANC Sedibeng Regional Executive Committee member.”

At the recently held regional conference, Mako was elected ANC Sedibeng Regional Treasurer.

“The ANC remains committed to fixing local government and building an economy that works for all.”

  • In the African National Congress (ANC), a Provincial Task Team (PTT) is an interim, appointed structure established by the National Executive Committee (NEC). PTTs are deployed to manage, rebuild, and stabilize provincial or regional structures when normal branches are dissolved or dysfunctional, usually leading up to electoral conferences.
