SASOLBURG – While many young people are still finding their feet, one police officer is already making headlines for taking on dangerous criminals and refusing corruption.
As South Africa marks Youth Month, 32-year-old Constable Charity Ntsako Ramasodi is being celebrated as one of the South African Police Service’s rising stars.
Attached to the Fezile Dabi District Operational Command Centre (DOCC) Trio Crimes Task Team, Ramasodi plays a key role in fighting serious crimes including cash-in-transit heists, armed robberies, ATM bombings and vehicle theft.
Born and raised in Thembisa, Gauteng, Ramasodi was raised by his grandparents, who taught him the values of hard work and perseverance.
Those lessons have helped shape him into the dedicated officer he is today.
After completing police training in Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape, he joined SAPS in December 2019 and quickly earned a reputation as a hardworking and fearless crime fighter.
One of the proudest moments of his career came when he refused a R20 000 bribe from a suspect involved in copper-cable theft. His honesty and commitment to justice earned him a Certificate of Appreciation from SAPS.
Ramasodi has also been involved in several high-profile operations.
He was part of a team that successfully recovered three stolen police vehicles and helped track down a vehicle theft suspect following a dramatic exchange of gunfire.
Despite the dangers of the job, he remains committed to serving communities and ensuring criminals are brought to book.
When he is not chasing suspects, Ramasodi serves as a district fitness coordinator, encouraging fellow officers to stay physically fit and ready for the demands of policing.
He believes fitness is a vital tool in helping officers remain alert, disciplined and prepared to protect the public.
Under the Youth Month theme, “My Blood is Blue – The Youth are Leading the Reset Agenda,” SAPS says young officers like Ramasodi are helping shape the future of policing through courage, professionalism and service excellence.
In a statement, Free State Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Thandi Mbambo said Ramasodi’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the role young people play in shaping the future of our country.
“His journey reflects the strength and resilience of youth determined to make a positive impact. With each case he tackles and every challenge he overcomes, Constable Ramasodi continues to inspire a new generation of police officers and citizens alike, proving that true strength lies in character, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to justice,” she said.
