Kwa-Masiza Flats community promised electricity by March 2027
"The community will continue to monitor the implementation of this undertaking."
SEBOKENG.- The Afrika Mayibuye Movement (Mayibuye) led by National Organiser, Patrick “General” Sindane, together with its Emfuleni Leader, Zakes Phohlela, and Ward 17 Councillor Candidate, Lisene Ntholi, addressed the community of Ext 28, Kwa-Masiza Flats over the community’s longstanding electricity challenges this week.
The meeting was attended by Itumeleng Nkosi, an Eskom Sales Representative, who confirmed that Eskom has received the correspondence from the community and that the matter has already been discussed between Eskom and the leadership of Mayibuye.
The Kwa-Masiza Flats community currently relies on solar power systems and has been demanding proper and permanent electricity connections from Eskom for some time.

The community was told that the electrification of Kwa-Masiza Ext 28 is planned for March 2027 and that the project is already reflected in Eskom’s plans and budget.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Sindane said that the Afrika Mayibuye Movement welcomes this commitment but emphasised that the community will continue to monitor the implementation of this undertaking until electricity is delivered to every household.
He further called on residents to work collectively with the leadership of Mayibuye to protect the electricity infrastructure once the area is electrified.
We must protect our electricity infrastructure.
“When electricity is finally installed, no resident must bypass the system or purchase illegal electricity. We must protect our electricity infrastructure, pay for our electricity responsibly and ensure that the community does not undermine the very service it has fought to receive,” said Sindane.
Sindane also cautioned Eskom that the community cannot afford empty promises or engagements that raise expectations without delivery.
“Eskom must not come here, raise the emotions and expectations of our people, and then disappear. We will hold Eskom accountable to the commitment made today. Our people need electricity, not promises,” said Sindane.
We will remain actively engaged with Eskom.
The meeting concluded with an agreement that Eskom will continue engaging with the leadership of Mayibuye throughout the process, with Mayibuye maintaining oversight until the electrification project is completed.
“The Afrika Mayibuye Movement will continue standing with the residents of Kwa-Masiza Ext 28 and will remain actively engaged with Eskom to ensure that the March 2027 commitment becomes a reality,” Sindane ended.
