SEDIBENG.- SAFA Sedibeng held its Regional Election, with Solly Mkhabela re-elected unopposed to lead for another four years.

The regional elections were hosted by Lesedi Local Football Association in Heidelberg on Sunday. Mkhabela returned to his previous position alongside his two deputies, Velaphi Motsepe (1st vice president) and Nobuntu Khoza (2nd vice president), with Jabu Mgcina elected as the regional treasurer.

The elections were under the watchful eye of the SAFA Gauteng Provincial Football Association chairperson, Pius Nqondela, and accompanied by Victor Reletjena, who is the provincial executive officer. Mkhabela hailed this regional election as a success, with the previous executive members rightfully returned to their respective positions.

The Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA) chairperson Jabu Mgcina, who was recently voted out of power, made a U-turn when re-elected in the Regional Executive Committee as the regional treasurer.
Mkhabela told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the ELFA elections were not constitutional and therefore Mgcina was eligible for election.

In fact, Mkhabela said the ELFA elections were nullified and are expected to be held again.

The new ELFA elections are scheduled for August 26. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that there is no way they can allow football to be stolen by certain individuals. Sedibeng Ster Sport also took the opportunity to ask Mkhabela who SAFA Sedibeng supports for the upcoming SAFA presidency between Dr Danny Jordaan and Sandile Zungu.

Mkhabela didn’t hesitate, saying SAFA Sedibeng throws its support behind the current SAFA president, Danny Jordaan.

“I will be honest with you; there are two campaigns/groups: Football Transformation Forum (FTF) is aligned with Dr Danny Jordaan and Save Our SAFA (SOS) is aligned with Mr Sandile Zungu.
So of the 52 regions we have in South Africa, 34 are FTF and 18 are with SOS; numbers don’t lie, and as a region we can only bet on a winning horse. We support Dr Danny Jordaan,” said Mkhabela.
