SEDIBENG.- Bafana Bafana star Thapelo Maseko is currently kicking his heels in frustration and training alone after finding himself without a club despite making headlines for his impressive performances at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Following the global tournament, the Sebokeng-born soccer star was told by Mamelodi Sundowns that he is free to look for a new club elsewhere.
Maseko had previously been on a short-term loan at AEL Limassol from Mamelodi Sundowns and was not included in Sundowns’ team for the pre-season. Sedibeng Ster Sport has learned from his former coach that Sundowns does not appear prepared to sell Maseko within the domestic league.
At one stage, Maseko was linked to Kaizer Chiefs, but this was not confirmed by either party.
According to his former coach, Maseko has been training alone to keep himself fit, and the only thing he wants is to be back out on the pitch, whether that is in the PSL or abroad.
His former coach shared that he speaks with Maseko almost every day and that the player is confident he will be back in action very soon.
“He told me that there are several teams locally and abroad that are interested in his signature, but he is weighing his options. I’m aware that much has been said in the media, but I know that Thapelo is confident that he will be back in the field. The boy has too much respect for Mamelodi Sundowns because this is where he made a name for himself,” the coach told Sedibeng Ster Sport.
