VANDERBIJLPARK.- It was a hive of activity all over the country in celebration of Women’s Day over the long weekend.

Bedworth Centre joined millions of South Africans in celebration by hosting the Womandla 4km and 8km Fun Run on Saturday.

This event celebrated health, wellness, and women’s empowerment while bringing together members of the community for a morning of fitness and fun. Bedworth Centre hosted this event in conjunction with Kasi Athletics Club and Student Heights Accommodation, which assisted with marshals and event operations.

Jam Clothing, Standard Bank, Red Bull and Vision Fashion were some of the sponsors who contributed to the success of the event. The Bedworthpark community, young and old, came in numbers to support this initiative in celebration of Women’s Day.

They participated in the 4km and 8km Fun Run, painting the streets of Bedworthpark in white attire. It was a great day, with the programme starting with registration before the participants competed against each other in both men and women categories.

The Vaal University of Technology students came in big numbers, most of them young women.

The first 100 participants in both 4km and 8km received medals for their efforts. Josephine Koki, who is the Bedworth Centre Junior Marketing Manager, hailed the event as a great success. She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the day went as planned thanks to the above-mentioned organisations.

The winners in the 4km are Lerato Lipholo (1^st), Vuyo Ndzutha (2nd) and Zanele Mabaso (3rd).

Thabiso Mosekili came first in the 8km, followed by Kagiso Mokhele, with Comfort Mdlangamandla finishing third.

“We want to thank our sponsors and participants for making this day possible. Everyone went home a winner because it was not only about winning but celebrating women. As the Bedworth Centre, we were overwhelmed by the support from the community. We want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support,” said Koki.
