SEDIBENG.- Jomo Cosmos, otherwise known as Ezenkosi, proceeded to the next round of the ABC Motsepe League’s Nedbank Cup Preliminary Round.

Ezenkosi achieved this feat after defeating JBM FC 3-0 on penalties after both sides failed to score in regular time. The game was decided on penalties, with Ezenkosi showing their accuracy as they converted the majority of their penalties, much to Jomo Sono’s delight.

This was not an easy outing for Cosmos, as JBM came into this fixture well prepared.

Cosmos, who returned the majority of their previous season’s players, including their captain, showed resilience and refused to be defeated thanks to their brilliant goalkeeper, who made several saves. He also produced a man-of-the-match performance in the penalty shootout. No doubt that with this performance, Cosmos will be a team to watch in the ABC Motsepe League this season.

They found themselves in trouble.

Despite the game being decided on penalties, Cosmos created several scoring opportunities but failed to convert them into goals. It was the same story last season, and they found themselves in trouble, fighting for relegation.

In another Nedbank Cup Preliminary Round, Young Pirates FC, who were representing Sedibeng, were eliminated from the tournament. This came after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Free Agents FC.
This means all the Vaal teams are out of the competition, and their focus will now be on the league, with the season set to kick off this weekend.

Tembisa Destroyers FC also booked their place in the next round of the competition, beating Mabopane JM FC 4-3 on penalties. Just like the Cosmos and JBM FC game, this game was also decided on penalties.
The three teams, Jomo Cosmos, Free Agents FC and Tembisa Destroyers FC, will now draw against SAFA’s five regional teams to produce an overall winner in Gauteng for the Last 32.
