Zone 10 community takes matters into their own hands

"It is sad to look at the state of our roads and streets."

SEBOKENG.-  The Zone 10 community has taken it upon themselves to deliver basic services in the area.

For years now, the community’s plea for the municipality to do something about the streets/roads has fallen on deaf ears.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, John Mooko, one of the community leaders, said that in the past they tried to engage the local authority to put a tarred road in Zone 10, but that has also fallen on deaf ears.

He told Sedibeng Ster that as a community, they have been trying for years without success.

Mooko said they have decided to pave their streets themselves.

He told Sedibeng Ster that they have also taken it upon themselves to get rid of the rubbish dump to make their area clean.

However, Mooko said there is still more to be done to clean the area.

It can’t be business as usual.

“I’m from Boipatong and moved to Zone 10 in 1993, and for all these years our area has never had a tarred road. We understand there are more serious problems that the community is facing, and maybe a tarred road is not a priority. It is sad to look at the state of our roads and streets. It can’t be business as usual.

As the Zone 10 community, we make a special plea to the local government to consider tarred roads,” said Mooko.

Sedibeng Ster will follow up on this with the local authority.
