OPINION: ‘We need updates on water crisis’

There have been sporadic reports of low reservoirs, burst pipes and so on, but no updates to how repairs are going and timeline of water returning.

DEAR Editor;

Greetings Mr France Zama (Ugu spokesman). It would normally be ‘good morning’, however, nothing good regarding water. I’ve been communicating with Ugu as Umzumbe has only had a half day of water, from February 5.

That’s now 23 days at the time of writing with no service we usually pay for, on time every month.

The two women can only rely on information from your control centre. Residents have phoned and been given different reasons, some advised that they are not sure, just been told what to say.

There have been sporadic reports of low reservoirs, burst pipes and so on, but no updates to how repairs are going and timeline of water returning.

Mr Zama, never has the South Coast been so bad. Tourists are withdrawing, jobs are lost amid the most challenging pandemic where water is the basic commodity.

Residents are calling for Ugu to request assistance of trained engineers and closely guarded funds to re-instate the unmanaged infrastructure, with help from Umgeni Water Services.

We would highly appreciate your involvement in providing water to towns, rural areas and those paying for a service not rendered. MRS L SIMPSON Umzumbe
