Benoni man found dead inside parked car: Investigations continue

A car riddled with bullet holes, with the body of a man on the back seat, was recently found in Mayfield, Putfontein.

Police in Putfontein, Benoni, are calling on residents to assist in their investigations, after a man was recently found dead inside a white Mazda in Mayfield, Putfontein.

According to Ekurhuleni District SAPS communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the police received a complaint of gunshots fired in Mayfield phase three.

“When the police arrived at the scene, the body of a man was found lying on the back seat of the vehicle. The car was riddled with bullet holes.”

Sekgobela says the deceased sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body and was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.

Police found over 20 cartridges and projectiles from a 9mm firearm on the scene.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that a second man was in the car. He was shot in the leg and taken to hospital. He [the deceased] was reportedly not wearing shoes at the time, but police found shoes nearby which they believe belong to the man taken to hospital.”

The motive for the shooting is not yet known, and the police have launched a manhunt.
