MARBURG Secondary School won a division and finished runners-up in another at the final schools’ volleyball knockout tournament held last Saturday.
In the U16 girls’ division, Marsec A finished unbeaten in the group stages to qualify for the final against Port Shepstone Secondary. After a shaky start, Marsec started to gain confidence but could not stop the determined PSS team which went on to take the game. In the boys’ U16 section, both Marsec teams missed out on a chance to reach the final.
The main event of the day was the boys O16 final, featuring Marsec and favourites on the day, Kwafica. Marsec got off to a slow start, allowing Kwafica to race away to handsome lead. But good cover work and clean attacks ensured Marsec clawed back to take the first set 25-24. Confident and determined Marsec took to the second set, firing on all cylinders to dominate the set and eventually take the match and the title.
The school’s annual sports day will be held tomorrow, Friday, August 23. The event will coincide with the gr 11 market day, which forms part of the business studies assessment.
