The body of 53-year-old Edwill Thomas was recovered in Scottburgh on August 21.

This came after a missing person’s report was filed for Thomas, who, according to his family, failed to return home on August 19.

He was last seen near the Cutty Sark beach, where it is believed he entered the water on a green boogie board with fins.

Authorities were alerted to the incident, and a search operation was launched.

NSRI Rocky Bay rescue crew joined the Saps Search and Rescue Unit, with NSRI crew searching along the shoreline between Scottburgh and Green Point Lighthouse in Clansthal.

While searching, NSRI crew were alerted by a local angler to a body in shallow surf along the shoreline.

NSRI crew attended the scene where Search and Rescue recovered the body, which was taken into the care of police and government health forensic pathology services.

Police have opened an inquest docket.
