PS Primary celebrates women

Tea was enjoyed after the formalities.

PORT Shepstone Primary celebrated Women’s Day on August 8. Shamin Maharaj, a pharmacist, addressed pupils on the significance of the day. She highlighted the proud role that women played in fighting the pass book system, with particular emphasis on the historic march by thousands of ordinary women to the Union Buildings.

She impressed upon pupils the need for discipline at school, as well as a sense of responsibility towards their education. It is hoped that pupils understood and accepted that education is their only tool to a successful and bright future.

Mrs Maharaj then joined the women of Port Shepstone Primary in enjoying an early morning cup of tea to commemorate Women’s Day.
