Remaining hero receives Star
He will wear the medal with pride in honour of his fellow shipmates.

AN ‘Ancient Mariners’ ceremony took place at Sapper’s Glen in Uvongo recently, where an Arctic Star medal was awarded to shipmate Mick Tyass.
Mr Tyass served on board the HMS Echo, an escort vessel to the convoys that took much needed supplies and food to Russia, when that country was cut off from land access by German forces in 1941 and 1942.
It has taken 70 years for the British government to agree that special Arctic Star medals be awarded at a proper civic ceremony to the few remaining heroes still alive. Mr Tyass said that he will wear the medal with the pride it deserves in honour of all his fellow shipmates who did not survive.
