ISLAMIC School’s grade 8 pupils tested the skills acquired in their Life Orientation lessons beyond the confines of the classroom. Last Friday morning, an enthusiastic class of pupils, led by Rabia Bux, loaded the school bus with healthy sandwiches, snacks, fruit and beverages, and made their way to the Port Shepstone Clinic to spend the morning interacting with staff and patients.
Sister Ashnee Pillay and her dedicated team of healthworkers allowed pupils to spend time among patients distributing delicious treats.
Ilhaam Khamissa was allowed to display her oratory skills to the wider public when she presented her speech on mothers, bringing comic relief to the audience.
Pupils took part in the clinic’s ‘Health Awareness’ event where they were informed on cervical and breast cancer and gender-based violence.
The Islamic school thanks the Port Shepstone Clinic for the allowing the pupils to be part of the ‘real world, to be enriched with caring and sharing’, making the world a better place.
The travelling bookstore, Diskonto Books, visited the school turning the school hall into a ‘feast for bookworms’. Pupils enjoyed shopping for books during the day and in the evening, parents and the public were able to purchase books at bargain prices.
Grade 10 pupils indulged the shoppers by hosting a refreshment kiosk, selling cakes, coffee and savouries.
