Hospice launches Tree of Light

For a small donation, you can light a symbolic lamp on the shimmering blue tree.

THE appeal letters are in the post and the 2013 Tree of Light project has officially been launched.

South Coast Hospice fund-raisers are ready to meet the challenge of running this, one of their biggest and most important fund-raising ventures of the year.

The Tree of Light is, however, far more than a fund-raising project. It offers people a beautiful way to remember those who are no longer with us and to celebrate their lives. For a small donation an individual person, organisation or business will be able to light a symbolic lamp on the tree in memory of a special person – or even a beloved pet.

Many local people simply light their lamps in honour of South Coast Hospice, an organisation that comforts the bereaved and provides such excellent palliative care and dignity to so many people.

An international hospice symbol, Trees of Light are lit throughout the world, shining out their message of love and remembrance throughout the festive season, a time when the loss of a loved one is often particularly hard to bear. The South Coast’s bright and beautiful tree, which is covered in shimmering blue lights, is erected at the Southcoast Mall every year. It will be switched on during a moving ceremony and carol singing evening on December 7, starting at 6.30pm. The tree will be lit at 8pm.

Donation forms are available from the South Coast Hospice Centre in Port Shepstone or from the Southcoast Mall management office. From October 31, hospice fund-raisers will man a tree of light table at the Southcoast Mall on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Donors can also make direct deposits into the South Coast Hospice Nedbank Port Shepstone account. The branch code is 139828 and the account number 1398023256. Give as a reference the word ‘TREE’ plus the T-number on your donation form.
