WHAT a successful week with the Readathon it was. The children really gave their best as they committed to a reading period every day and found out that they actually really enjoy reading. What a great way to spend a cold, rainy week by simply sitting down with a good book. The top reading classes will be receiving their prizes.
Southcity will now focus on supporting the Christmas toy run, as pupils bring in new and used toys to donate to those that are less fortunate.
Southcity’s U11B cricket team won their match against Creston by 10 wickets. Creston batted first and scored 59 runs for the loss of 5 wickets and Southcity successfully chased this total down for no loss of wickets. Cameron Wood scored 19 runs not out, while Slade Vanhoutte scored 30 runs not out and took 2 wickets. Slade was named man of the match.
The U11A cricket team also won their match against Creston by 100 runs, Southcity batted first and scored 151 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, with Damien le Roux scoring 64 not out. The team then managed to bowl Creston all out for 51. Matthew Highcock took 5 wickets. Damien and Matthew shared the man of the match award. Unfortunately due to the wet weather, all U13 cricket matches were rained out.
Last Friday, 11 Southcity Christian College pupils took part in the 2013 SKZN Golf Champs. Conner James tied for first place with a pupil from Kuswag. Five Southcity boys, Connor James, Keagan Burton, Joshua Woycieh, Cornell Schmitz and Joshua Fouche were selected for the SKZN golf team, with Tyler Grove and Joshua Reed selected as reserves.
The girls league touch rugby tournament that was to be hosted by Southcity was cancelled, but Southcity is looking forward to this week’s tournament at Kingsway.
House Captains for 2014 are Lindi Burger and Calvin Brown (Asher), Amber Lourens and Brandon Venter (Judah) and Courtney Wright and Ryan Stack (Levi).
