Marburg woman attacked and robbed
She was confronted by a man who demanded her cellphone.
A MOTHER of two is lucky to be alive after she was attacked just metres from her house last Wednesday.
Ruwaida Shaik (38) of Iris Road, Marburg was on her way to visit her ill mother in hospital when she was confronted by a man who demanded her cellphone.
“I had phoned for a meter taxi to pick me up as my husband was working. I had made arrangements with the driver to pick me up at 10am. I decided to go down the driveway but when I reached the turn a man grabbed me from behind,” said Mrs Shaik.
She said that the attacker screamed into her ear to hand over the cellphone. He then grabbed her around the neck and started throttling her.
“He pressed so hard against my throat that I thought I was going to die,” said Mrs Shaik.
Once she had dropped the phone the attacker grabbed the phone and fled. Mrs Shaik screamed for help which alerted some people living nearby. Police were called. A subsequent search for the assailant was unsuccessful.
“I now live in fear thinking that he is going to come back for me or my family. I would like to warn people to be very careful when out on the roads. We are being watched,” said Mrs Shaik.
“A case of robbery is being investigated by Port Shepstone SAPS, said Captain Thulani Zwane. He added that no arrests have been made.
