Be a hero – it’s in your blood

Stocks are currently very low, particularly of type O.

THE South African National Blood Service in the KZN region is experiencing a critical blood shortage. Current blood stocks are below the required five day stock level, in particular, Group O blood type, the universal blood group that can be given to anyone in an emergency.

SANBS relies heavily on schools for blood donations, however pupils are busy with year end examinations and simply cannot donate blood at the moment. As the festive season approaches, SANBS is looking to organisations, places of worship and all regular donors to heed its call and boost stocks.

SANBS appeals to the public to visit their nearest blood donor centre and donate blood urgently

The minimum requirements to be a donor are; be between the ages of 16 to 65 years, weigh more than 50 kg, be in good health, and be living a sexually safe lifestyle.

To find your nearest clinic, call toll free, 0800 119031 or visit: www.sanbs.org.za.
