Train slams into taxi

Remarkably, only four passengers were injured, none seriously.

MIRACULOUSLY, only four passengers in a taxi suffered minor injuries after a train collided with the taxi while it was attempting to cross the railway line at Illfracombe last night.

At around 7.20pm, ER24 paramedics received urgent calls about the taxi which had been struck at the railway crossing on the R102 in Umgababa. The taxi had been pushed right off the tracks, with the impact appearing to have occurred at the very rear of the taxi.

Four of the rear seat occupants were sightly injured. They were treated and taken to hospitals in the area for further assessment and care. The remaining passengers were not injured and after being assessed by paramedics, left the scene privately.

It is not yet clear why the taxi was crossing when the train was approaching, but the local authorities were on scene and will conduct all necessary investigations into the crash.
