From the bowling greens

It has been a busy time for local bowlers.

VILLAGE

DON Fowler and Rosalie Bloom won the Wingnuts Plumbing mixed 2-4-2 followed by Olwen Gibbs and Bruce Coldwells. Sessions went to Bill Brown and Chrissie Chancellor and to Carl Volker and Marie Momple. Hein Bester won the 50/50.

The winners of the Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 were Hein Bester and Ali Mitchell followed by Mike Jeffries and Ernie Southward. Barry Christie and Norman Isherwood won the first session and Rassie Erasmus and Gary Hess won the second session. Ken Hills took home the whisky.

The Hyundai mixed trips was won by Brian Williams, Johan van Niekerk and Bill Reed followed by Ina Malan, Paul Bosman and Muriel Gartelle. Ken Hills, Orrill Day and Aubrey Watson were third and the drawn prizes went to Heibie Pelser, Brian King and Chris Haslam.

Members are asked to return donations and raffle sheet lists to Norman in time for the hamper draw this Saturday, November 30 when the last bowls for the year will be the Bone of Contention. Please bring a plate of snacks to share after the game.

There is a bring and braai this Friday, November 29 and bingo on Friday, December 6.

UMTENTWENI

JOHN Bloch and Nellie Davies won the J Cee Sounds mixed 2-4-2 competition with a score of 4+11 from runners-up Steve Doran and Astrid Jackson on 4+9. Louis Marx and Daphne Hounsell won the session prize on 2+14.

Congratulations to Tony Korb and Marie Pick on winning the club’s mixed pairs championships in the final play-off against runners-up Steve Doran and Astrid Jackson.

Doreen Ferguson, Marie Fourie and Jean Celliers won first prize in the Schooners Restaurant competition from runners-up Johnny Meyer, Tammy Gibbons and Dawn Daneel.

New member Tammy Gibbons was welcomed and presented with a club hatband by club president Ty Ferguson.

The John Dory’s mixed fours competition scheduled for Friday, November 15 was postponed due to inclement weather.

The bowling green is now closed for annual maintenance and hopefully will reopen in about a month’s time. Members and visitors will be informed via the South Coast Herald as per usual.

RIVERSIDE

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who received awards at the club’s annual prize-giving.

Athol Robertson, Dieter Scholz and John Richards were the winners of the

Airprof Engineering men’s trips followed by Ron Weddell, Tony Bailey and Jannie van der Nest. First session winners were Bob Smith, Trevor Heywood and John Louch and the second session went to Denzil Massyn, Gary Hess and Ross Ferguson.

The next sponsored competitions will be the Fruit and Veg City mixed 2-4-2 this Friday, November 29 and Hopden’s Kwikspar open trips on Wednesday, December 11.

BANNERS REST

THE SuperSpar Port Edward mixed trips played on Wednesday, November 20 was won by Joe Ashworth, Leoni Booth and Dice Graaff. Runners-up were Kotie Snyman, Ron Camps and Anne Wells and the second session was won by Dave Banks, Mac Mackenzie and Pam Gilson. The 50/50 board went to Baba du Plessis.

The final sponsored competition for the year will be the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs on Sunday, December 1 with thanks to Sheila Hankey and Nova Allen for catering.

Birthday wishes go to David Carr on December 3. Members also wish him a speedy recovery.

SOUTHBROOM

ATHOL Robertson, Dieter Scholtz and Kevin Todd won the Fish on the Pond men’s trips last Tuesday. Chris Faber, Graham Fisher and Andrea Blignaut were runners-up and the sessions went to Neels Boshoff, Hugh Purtell and Philip Lotter as well as Aubrey Hood, Boet Bloem and Derek Ott. Hein Bester won the 50/50 board.

Southbroom was represented in the KBA mixed fours competition by Malcolm Milne, Heather Roberts with Hans and Lorraine Wijtman.

Saturday, November 30 will be a special bowls day as Warwick Wealth will be sponsoring the competition with tabs in at 1.30pm for 2pm. Do support this social day as it promises to be great occasion. A braai will take place afterwards.

The next quiz willl be held on Friday, December 13 at 6pm for 6.30pm.

Hugh Purtell is wished all the best and happy birthday on December 7.

HIBBERDENE

THE green officially opened last Saturday with a few moments of silence for the late Ann Hoyer.

The mixed drawn trips competition sponsored by several local businesses was won by Bernard Carpenter, Chris Snyman and Estelle Quinn. Fay Patterson, Hana Svoboda and Helene Oosthuizen were runners-up and the session prize went to Barbs Sates, John Hough and Sandra Smith-Enticott. The afternoon was perfectly rounded off with a delicious lamb on the spit, sponsored by Cheryl Knight.

Social bowls is played on Tuesday mornings and on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons at 1.45 for 2pm.

The list is up for the Christmas dinner on Friday, December 6 at 5.30 for 6pm. Members are advised that the cost is R70 not R75 as previously reported.

SOUTHPORT

THE Dr Daryl D’Arcy men’s trips scheduled for last Thursday was cancelled due to rain and replayed last Sunday.

Members are reminded that the Southport Service Station mixed trips will be played this Sunday, December 1 in the afternoon and there will be a jumble sale outside the club on Saturday, December 7 from 9am.

The club’s Christmas lunch will be held on Friday, December 13 at 12 noon and members are reminded to please contribute to the Christmas hamper draw.

THE BELL

LUKE Pohl, Maureen Head, Johannie Theron and Peter Ford are congratulated on reaching the play-offs in the KBA mixed fours.

Barbara Fernihough, Denise and Tickey Nel and Jimmy Holtzhausen won the Fruit and Veg City mixed fours and the session prize went to Inger Mitchell, Renzo van Niekerk, Lillian Ribeiro and Tony Botha.

The Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ mixed trips will be played tomorrow, Friday, November 29. (Convenor – Dave Matthews and Mada Lindeque. Catering – Denise Nel and an/or).

The next round of the club’s mixed fours will be played on Sunday, December 1 at 9am.

PORT EDWARD

CONGRATULATIONS to Barry Payn on being the KBA men’s singles champion this year and his invitation to join the KBA squad. Well done Barry, you have made us proud !

Thanks to the hard work and excellent catering by the women headed by Jeanette Offer, members were treated to a delicious Christmas lunch last Sunday.

Monday saw a very jolly crowd, consisting of both bowlers and others, off on a cruise down the Umtamvuna River! By all accounts, a good time was had by all with many requests for a repeat of this outing. We trust our president, Arthur Ronaldson, who, together with the local garden club members organised this, has taken note!

MARGATE BC

CHRIS Forward, Peet Trollip, Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells, along with Dave and Rae Barber with Mike and Sandy Jeffrey as well as Ken Tonge, Athol Robertson, Ann Waugh and Yvonne Bausek are all congratulated on making it through to the play-offs and finals of the KBA mixed fours. This was a fantastic achievement.

Thanks to all the women who helped with the catering arrangements.

The club’s 75th Anniversary Tournament last week, sponsored by Warwick Wealth, was a great success with Merle MacLarty, Peter Bausek and Mannie Rodriques the winners. Ellen Cawker, John Richardson, Johnny Louch and Vi Pells were runners-up followed by Cedric Glanfield, Louis Fouche, Ann Waugh and Derek Mc Kechnie in third place.

The next fun day is the Boers vs Brits day sponsored by Dave Slippers this Sunday, December 1, starting at 9am followed by a bring and braai.

Don’t forget the bingo evening on Monday, December 1 at 5.30 for 6pm for fun and games and a good meal.

Members are reminded to check the notice board for upcoming events and to please put your names down for the club’s Christmas lunch offering a delicious three course meal at R75 per head on Sunday, December 15.

MUNSTER

BARRY Turner with Herman and Maureen Botha won the open trips sponsored by John Dory’s last Tuesday. Gawie Bosman, John Keppler and Rob Lyle were runners-up and the second session went to Tommy and Louise Dry with Willie Smith. The board went to Pat Gilbee.

The Ocean Basket run held on Friday was won by Herman Botha and Tony Smith. Maureen Botha, Lenie Prinsloo and Rita Zietsman were runners-up and Cliff Moakes and David Lindley went home with the eggs.

The annual Christmas dinner takes place this Friday, November 29. As there are carols by candlelight at 6pm in the parking lot, come early to ensure parking.
