POLICE arrested a 44-year-old man at his Marburg house on Monday this week for dealing in crystal meth (tik).
Warrant Officer Patrick Gosling, Constables Raphael Smithwick, Travis Dickens and Mzakwe Makana went to the house in Chestnut Drive and searched the man’s bedroom where they found eight plastic bags containing the drug.
“The drugs were hidden in his wardrobe,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid. The officers also confiscated two pipes which are used to smoke the drug as well as three scales. The drug is not commonly used on the South Coast, but this could be just the beginning,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
Crystal meth is a form of methamphetamine that resembles small fragments of glass or shiny white-blue rocks.
On the street it is also known as ‘ice’, ‘crystal’ and ‘glass’, among other names. It is a highly powerful and addictive man- made stimulant that causes aggression and violent or psychotic behaviour.
Many users report getting ‘hooked’ (addicted) from the first time they use it.
The man appeared in Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday this week for dealing in drugs. The case was postponed for further investigation. The man remains in custody. The drug sells for R300 a bag.
