A DOG that was rescued in Pumula unfortunately had his back right leg amputated.
Tanner, as this brave young dog has been named, was found on the road in poor condition recently. He was starving, and limping due to an injury most likely sustained as a result of being struck by a car.
Veterinarian Claire Norton said X-rays showed that there was such severe bone damage that it could not be repaired.
Penny Taylor, from Harmony Hill Animal Hotel in Sea Park, who rescued him, said euthanasia wasn’t an option.
Tanner was due to have surgery this week but his rehabilitation is going to cost in the region of R3000.
Penny is appealing to the public for help as Harmony Hill already has 21 rescued dogs looking for loving homes.
In the last week, they received two puppies found in a drain, and another two rescued from a certain death by drowning.
As a concerned animal lover, she urged people not to throw unwanted animals out on the highway, or dump them in a dustbin, or tie them to a tree away from home.
She said there are a number of rescue organisations that would take these animals in, no questions asked. For more info, contact 082 7190838.
