Artist ‘Happy’ to be nominated for music award
The singer is putting the South Coast on the map.
THE voting lines for the 13th Metro FM Music Awards are officially open following the announcement of the nominees during an event held at the Turbine Hall in Newtown in Johannesburg, last Thursday night.
Happy Mpendulo Mdunjana of Gamalakhe has been nominated for the best newcomer category. He and another South Coast musician, Naima Kay, were nominated in the same category.
Happy has been nominated for his hit single ‘Berlinda’ from his album entitled ‘Ahead of time’.
“I honestly wasn’t expecting to be nominated,” said an overwhelmed Happy. He added that winning the best newcomer award would be the cherry on top.
Happy made a name for himself when he composed the hit song ‘Million Times’, which was featured in DJ Chynaman’s album, ‘Chynaman’s House 2’. The song created a major buzz of anticipation in the music industry and it became clear that an album release would soon take off.
“I want to put the South Coast on the map, I want the whole country to know that there is talent on the South Coast,” he said.
The 13th Metro FM Music Awards will take place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Conference Centre (ICC), in Durban, on March 1. To vote for Happy sms newcomer ‘Happy’ to 34764.
