Sappi accident driver wants bail

Sixteen people died in the accident last November.

THE driver of the taxi which crashed into a truck at the Sappi Saiccor factory last November, killing 16 people, appeared at the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.

Gcina Langa took the National Prosecuting Authority by surprise when his legal aid lawyer advised that he wanted to apply for bail, after he initially abandoned the request.

However, the NPA opposed bail as the investigating officers were not immediately available to testify. The magistrate set the official bail application for this Friday, February 7.

Gcina Langa is arrested.
