It’s not too late to register

Encouragingly, half the people who registered to vote last Saturday were new voters aged between 18 and 29 years

MORE than a million people registered to vote over the weekend, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said. The registration process ran smoothly at the many stations on the South Coast.

Kate Bapela, IEC spokesman, said 1.2 million people registered across the country last Saturday. She said half the people who registered to vote on Saturday were new voters aged between 18 and 29 years.

For those who have not yet registered, this week is your last chance. The IEC offices, situated at 22 Price Street (opposite Port Shepstone Junior Primary) in Port Shepstone, will be open  from 8am to 4pm for registration.
