It’s time to pay your Tekkie Tax

South Coast Hospice will receive a percentage of its sticker, tag and shirt sales proceeds.

WALK an extra mile – in your favourite takkies – for South Coast Hospice by supporting its 2014 Tekkie Tax fund-raising efforts.

Hospice is one of more than 1 000 charitable organisations that will benefit from the massive, national fund-raising campaign that culminates with Tekkie Tax Day on Friday, May 30. It is a simple but effective concept that offers South Africans a chance to make a difference – and to choose how their donations will be spent.

Individuals can assist South Coast Hospice and be part of this national initiative by buying a Tekkie Tax sticker, a set of Tekkie Tax shoelaces and tags or a eye-catching lime green Tekkie Tax golf shirt from the hospice fund-raising team. They can show their support for the massive project by putting their best foot forward and wearing these items on Tekkie Tax Day.

If the Tekkie Tax merchandise is bought through South Coast Hospice, the organisation will receive R4 from every sticker sold for R10, R6 from every set of tags sold for R30 and R10 for every golf shirt sold for R110. As for the balance of the money, buyers can choose whether their donations will support animals, basic family care, children, education or people with disabilities. The stickers for the five categories are printed in different colours.

The South Coast Hospice fund-raisers are also asking companies to assist them with the big project by giving permission and encouraging their employees to support their Tekkie Tax efforts. They will liaise with the companies’ designated Tekkie Tax representatives and will provide them with stickers and with order forms for tags and shirts. Participating companies that sell the merchandise on behalf of Hospice also receive colourful Tekkie Tax posters.

Employees can then show their support for South Coast Hospice and the national drive by wearing their Tekkie Tax stickers, tags and shirts to work on Tekkie Tax day.

Four local businesses, County Ford, Ramsgate Stationers, Mbango Association and Shelly Centre Tourism Info Desk, have already pledged their support for South Coast Hospice’s Tekkie Tax project. County Ford has also offered to match every R10 Tekkie Tax sticker sold at its reception with a further R10 donation to South Coast Hospice.
