THE arrest came after Margate police received a tip-off regarding a suspicious vehicle in Uvongo. “As soon as driver of the gold coloured sedan saw police he sped off,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“Police followed the car. The driver refused to stop and drove at a high speed through the streets of Uvongo, then proceeding to Port Shepstone and before turning back towards Margate.

“When police stopped the vehicle, Sergeant Thabane Mofokeng from Port Shepstone K9 unit, and officers from Margate SAPS noticed a white powdery substance covering the windows and seats of the car. They arrested the Nigerian national.”

The man was taken to a house in Uvongo, which he rents, where a search was conducted by narcotics dog, Mura. Mura led Sgt Mofokeng to a plastic container which was hidden in the bushes in the garden. Two bags of cocaine weighing 0,135kg, heroin weighing 0,021 kg, two plastic bags containing CAT and 29 Ecstasy tablets were found in the container.
