Countdown begins for Tessa’s arrival

She is expected to be home by the end of the month.

DRUG mule, Tessa Beetge, will be landing on South Africa soil before the end of the month.

This means Tessa, who has spent five-and-a-half-years in a Brazilian jail, may be home by the end of next week.

Her aunt, Margie Olsen, told the Herald yesterday (Wednesday) that she had recently received confirmation via email from the Department of International Relations and Co-operation’s consular services about news of Tessa’s arrival back home.

Margie said that due to security reasons, she would be informed basically the evening before Tessa boards her flight back to South Africa.

“Tessa who has publicly said she is petrified with regards to her life, will be escorted by the Brazilian federal police to the airport,” she said.

After being behind bars for more than half a decade, Tessa was recently expelled from a Brazilian jail and moved to a holding cell by the Brazilian federal police.

“Everyone, including her friends and her children, are excited about the news,” she said.

Tessa was linked to convicted drug dealer Hibiscus Coast Municipality’s director for health Sheryl Cwele, who is serving a 12-year jail term at the Westville Prison.

Tessa was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment after she was caught with 10 kilograms of cocaine in her luggage at Sao Paulo Airport in 2008.
