Make use of the corruption hotline
The identity of whistle-blowers will be protected.
TO try and root out fraud and corruption within the district, Ugu District Municipality, together with its family of local municipalities, launched the anti fraud and corruption hotline at Umdoni Municipality on Thursday last week.
This hotline has been created for fraud and corruption reports and it is a shared service between Ugu, the six municipalities and Ugu entities; South Coast Development Agency and Ugu South Coast Tourism.
It is already operational, members of the public can anonymously report suspected incidents of fraud and corruption by officials, business people and community members taking place in any of the municipalities.
Ugu mayor Ntombifikile Gumede emphasised the importance of each member of the community from all levels of life becoming ambassadors of this hotline to ensure it is used maximally for its purpose.
“We ensure those who send reports through the hotline will remain anonymous and their identity will be protected,” she said.
The municipality will issue public reports at regular intervals on the effectiveness of the fraud hotline. The community is urged to be responsible and report crime at 0801 111 660, or fax: 086 5222 816, or email: information@whistleblowing.co.za or post to PO Box 51006, Musgrave, 4001.
